What is the Winery Benchmark?
Steve developed the Winery Benchmark for Farm Credit to help winery owners improve their wine business through individual analysis as well as comparison to similar businesses locally and across other regions. Each member winery receives the following over the course of each participating year:
- An individual business analysis report
- A benchmark comparing your winery’s operation to other wineries
- A personalized plan to improve your winery’s profitability
- Access to special economic analyses of benchmark data throughout the year
- Access to monthly data studies on the password-protected Winery Benchmark Participants page
What about my data? Do other wineries see my confidential information?
Participating wineries own their own data–everything is proprietary–so no data is shared publicly, nor is it shared with anyone inside the Farm Credit system unless the producer gives permission.
What are the benefits of being a member of the Winery Benchmark?
- Members gain a significant competitive advantage over non-participants
- Members have a much stronger ability to pinpoint areas of strength or places in need of improvement
- Members have a greater understanding of where their winery stands against peers and wineries in other regions

How much does it cost to enroll in the Winery Benchmark?
Basic enrolloment starts at $1500 per winery per year and fluctuates based on travel costs. The enrollment fee includes the data collection, the Winery Benchmark report, the annual meeting, and a follow up visit with your management team.
